Thursday Discussion: Am I Allowed to be My Own Person?

On Tuesday, we explored the developmental phase of toddlers, as they begin practicing autonomy with their parents, determining if they can safely express a will different than their parents. In other words, they’re testing whether it’s safe to be their own person in their family.

Starting at less than two years old, young children begin asking their parents an existential question:

Can I be my own person, or am I just an extension of you?
